2023 passenger volume at Dubai Airport surpasses pre-pandemic records

Image of Dubai International Airport (DXB). — Middle East Economy/File Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the world’s busiest airports, received 87 million passengers in 2023, exceeding both pre-pandemic traffic levels and Dubai Airport’s own annual projection, Middle East Economy reported.

The 2023 numbers were driven by robust growth in the second half of the year, during which the airport recorded a total of 45.4 million guests.

According to airport estimates, the hub will welcome 88.8 million visitors in 2024, coming very close to its previous record of 89.1 million visitors established in 2018.

Quarter 3 from July to September was the most trafficked quarter since 2019, with August being the busiest month of the year with 7.9 million guests.

Out of the fourth quarter from October to December, which welcomed a total of 22.4 million guests, December was the busiest month with 7.8 million passengers.

With 11.9 million travellers, India took the top rank among destination nations. Followed by Saudi Arabia with 6.7 million. 

The United Kingdom came in third with 5.9 million visitors. Other countries included Germany (2.5 million), Russia (2.5 million), the US (3.6 million), and Pakistan (4.2 million).

DXB processed 77.5 million bags in 2023, the highest volume of bags managed during a calendar year. While it handled 1.806 million metric tonnes of cargo, a slight decrease of 4.5% compared to the previous year.
